The Dallas Cowboys won't have this player on their roster in 2023.
Free agent tight end Dalton Schultz has signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans for $9 million, joining former Cowboys wide receiver Noah Brown.
Schultz spent all of his first five seasons with the Cowboys. His coming out party was in 2020 when he tallied 63 receptions for 615 yards and four touchdowns.
The next season is when Schultz took his game to the next level by racking up 78 receptions for 808 yards and eight scores. However, his future with the Cowboys started to get gloomy at that point.
Schultz, understandably, was looking for a long-term deal with the Cowboys after back-to-back big years. That didn't come to fruition and Dallas placed the franchise tag on him for $10.9 million instead.
The 2022 season didn't work in Schultz's favor as his numbers dropped in every significant category with 57 grabs for 577 yards and five touchdowns. So, naturally, the Cowboys didn't see the need to jump on anything that would keep Schultz on the roster for the foreseeable future.
With Schultz only signing for $9 million to go to Houston, and for only one year, it makes the Cowboys look even smarter. Plus, with promising players like Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot on the roster, they have plenty to work with at tight end, not to mention, there are valuable options in April's NFL draft as well.
