Even years after his career with the Dallas Cowboys ended, wide receiver Terrance Williams has found many ways to keep his career active. He's spent time in the XFL, the Indoor Football League, CFL, Fan Controlled Football, and most recently, he took his talent to Mexico to play with the Tijuana Galgos (Greyhounds).

Williams is probably the most experienced NFL player to ever start for a team in the Liga de Fútbol Americano, having started 68 games for the Cowboys and played in 83. The league is mostly made up of Mexican players and a few Americans: teams have an imposed limit to foreign players and can only line up six simultaneously. But even though some American players have FBS experience, most do not.

When the Galgos announced the signing of Williams, fans in Mexico were impressed and excited about watching him play in the league. The former NFL player helped turn around a team that debuted with a winless season in 2022 to a 5-5 record and the last playoff berth. His season came to an end on Saturday after the Galgos were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round.

After making a strong first impression by making a wild catch (which you can watch in the tweet below), Williams' season was full of ups and downs as his team's offense was explosive yet inconsistent enough to result in the benching of the team's starting quarterback, former TCU standout Trevone Boykin.

In the ten-game regular season, Williams finished the 2023 campaign with:

  • 679 receiving yards (8th most)
  • 4 touchdowns (T-14th)
  • 6 drops (T-7th)

While the Galgos will watch the league's semifinals from home, America's Team's former starter helped grow a league that's on the rise in Mexico. In a historic season with 10 teams that's seen growth in fandom and quality on and off the field, faces with NFL experience are key to drawing fan interest in a country that follows the NFL by the millions.
