The Dallas Cowboys are tough to figure out when it comes to this year's NFL Draft. Their first round selection could go a lot of different ways, including tight end, defensive line, or offensive line.

In the second round, they'll have a big decision to make based off the first selection. In ESPN's latest mock draft from Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr., Dallas struck gold with their second pick. It may surprise some folks, but the need is clear at the position.

The Cowboys grabbed Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta with the 58th overall pick in the mock draft. It's a smart pick for Dallas. It immediately fills a need that is vital to their offense as well.

McShay's pick: Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa

A tight end this good, this late? It makes me feel better about the Cowboys missing out at the position in Round 1. LaPorta could give Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense an immediate answer to losing Dalton Schultz in free agency.

LaPorta comes from the college known the most for churning out TE talent for the professional level. T.J. Hockenson and George Kittle are both former Hawkeyes, and LaPorta is another exciting tight end prospect from Iowa.

He also possesses impressive physical traits for his position. Laporta owns an RAS score of 9.02 at 6'3" and 245 pounds. That's an elite rating among his fellow tight ends.

This advanced stat of the week is powered by Boston Scientific!

RAS takes into account all of the physical testing done by prospects at their pro day or the NFL Combine. Size is also a piece of the scoring. LaPorta checks a lot of boxes for an NFL TE prospect, and the Cowboys could use a player like him on day two of the NFL Draft.
