The 2023 Dallas Cowboys will have some Tom Landry DNA on their coaching staff. Well, not exactly.

But the team is adding an offensive line coach that worked with Landry in 1987 and 1988 as assistant OL coach and special teams coach.

At 68 years old, Mike Solari will join the Cowboys' overhauled offensive staff, per Dallas Morning News.

Solari will replace Joe Philbin, whose contract expired after the 2022 season.

The new Cowboys OL coach most recently worked for the Seattle Seahawks from 2018 to 2021 in the same role and while the Seahawks weren't known for their trenches, Solari was responsible for improvements in the unit.

Solari also has ties with Mike McCarthy. He worked with the current Cowboys HC (and future play-caller) with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1997-1998. McCarthy later hired Solari to Green Bay in 2005.

For Mike McCarthy, pass protection was always been a priority so hiring an offensive line coach was always going to be one of the most intriguing decisions following the team's divorce with Philbin.

Earlier this week, ESPN's Todd Archer said on 105.3 The Fan that Philbin was one of the highest-paid OL coaches in the entire NFL. Ultimately, what will matter to Cowboys Nation is if Solari will present an upgrade, though.

Cowboys still have many choices to make on OL

Now that they've hired a coach, the Cowboys still have a lot of decisions left to make in the trenches. Tyron Smith is a cap casualty candidate while Connor McGovern could be replaced by an upgrade.
