The 2023 NFL Draft is less than a week away!

That means it's time to go over the Dallas Cowboys' top team needs. Of course, picking players it's about more than just filling needs as value is an important part of the process. Many will argue that "best player available" is the best possible approach but it's never that simple.

So without any further ado, let's rank the Cowboys' biggest needs heading into one of the most important days in the NFL calendar.

Cowboys’ needs tiersPositions

Primary

iOL, TE, iDL

Secondary

LB, CB, WR

Tertiary

OT, RB, K, EDGE

Primary Needs: iOL, TE, DL

The Cowboys clearly need help up front. As of right now, based on their public statements on Tyler Smith being the starting left tackle moving forward, there's not a clear-cut starter at left guard. That could change if Dallas decides to keep the young lineman inside with Tyron Smith taking over outside. But for now, the team has publicly hinted that Tyler is the LT and Tyron the RT. Factor in Terence Steele's rehab process and this might be a make-or-break caliber need.

As for tight end, it's a bigger need than many are willing to admit. While Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot had very promising rookie seasons, the Cowboys could use a safer bet at the position and are reportedly interested in drafting one in the first round. Those two combined for 30 catches and 277 yards.

The team is overall well-equipped when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. But the biggest weakness is likely the interior defensive line. Only Osa Odighizuwa exceeded the 36% snap count mark among the team's defensive tackles, per Pro Football Reference. The team will likely address the position at some point in the Draft.

Secondary Needs: LB, CB, WR

The Cowboys are likely to consider drafting a linebacker on Day 1 or 2 of th 2023 NFL Draft, even hosting some of them on their Top 30 visits. But with Leighton Vander Esch and Damone Clark on deck, they shouldn't really force it. They could always bring back Anthony Barr or a similar veteran LB post-draft.

Cornerback and wide receiver (as well as some of the tertiary needs that we'll dive into later) fall in the "you can't have enough of these" category. Even after trading for Stephon Gilmore and Brandin Cooks this offseason, look for the Cowboys to add to both positions if appropiate.

And keep in mind, in today's game, 11 personnel is king. That means you essentially need four legit wideouts at all times.

Tertiary Needs: S, OT, RB, K, EDGE

Although they've got a strong safety group, the Cowboys are seemingly looking into players who fit the Jayron Kearse mold. With Kearse set to play on a contract year, it only makes sense.

As for the rest of these positions, it's pretty straightforward. The Cowboys have a thin offensive tackle group and need to add to the RB room to support Tony Pollard. Anyone who tuned into the playoffs understands why the team should consider using a draft pick on a kicker since the market is very limited at the moment.
