The Dallas Cowboys have had one of the most productive offenses in the NFL over the last four years under offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and Dak Prescott playing quarterback. However, after back-to-back pedestrian performances in playoff losses, the Cowboys decided to move on from Moore.

As a result, Cowboys' head coach Mike McCarthy will call the plays, and new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will be there to help with some nuances.

Prescott spoke about the offense going forward after the Moore era, and he revealed an intriguing nugget.

"Right now, Mike told me [about] 20-30% change," Prescott told Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports. "I think if anything, it's things that need to be changed.

"It's great to dial in, fix some things, get sharper and crisper. I'm excited."

McCarthy hasn't called plays since he did so during the better part of his 13 seasons as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers (2006-2018). McCarthy used the West Coast Offense and it came with a lot of success as the Packers made nine playoff appearances and won a Super Bowl in 2010.

Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers flourished in this system winning two of his four MVP awards under McCarthy's playcalling (2011, 2014).

The West Coast Offense is designed for quick and short passes to stretch defenses horizontally and open up long passes down the field as well as big runs. So, McCarthy will implement some of those principles into what the Cowboys do now offensively.

The Cowboys will need to do some upgrading to the offense to help out Prescott. Outside of All-Pro CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys receiving corp was lackluster in 2022 as he outproduced the other seven receivers that catch passes by himself, truly underwhelming.

It's a new day in a way for the Cowboys' offense, and Prescott has fully embraced it.

“Sometimes change is good,” Prescott said. “I’m a big believer in change and I’m excited for Mike calling the plays. I’m excited for Schotty. I’m excited for just being able to dial into this offense and just really get it to where we want it to be.

“I’m excited as hell.”

Now, it'll be interesting to see if these changes will get the Cowboys past the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 1990s.
