The NBA is pretty trade happy these days. The Phoenix Suns just keep going out making trades for big time players and nobody is betting an eye. As for the NFL, big trades happen, but it's more of small game. The Detroit Lions have been involved in some of those trades and they could soon be involved in more.
Outside of the possibility of acquiring Chase Young from the Commanders, the Lions could be looking to grab more draft assets or a player they feel they could build up in Detroit.
Here's three current Lions that the team could deal away to grab those assets.
Craig Reynolds

Early this week I put Reynolds on the list of players that could be a surprise cut at the end of camp in August. They might not have to go that route if they're able to move him.
There are teams out there that are in need of a running back and would possibly be willing to part with a draft pick to get one. The Cardinals and Buccaneers are two teams that come to mind. Reynolds could find himself a bigger role on a team like that. If the Lions could get a sixth or seventh round pick in exchange, that's a win.
Charles Harris

Not long ago it looked like the Lions really scored a coup with Charles Harris. The former first round draft pick had bounced around a bit until having his best season with the Lions in 2021. He unfortunately took a big step back in 2022.
The real issue is that the Lions have some up and coming pass rushers that could work their way into more snaps and that could take from Harris. He's still valuable though. The Lions could try to move him for draft assets or a low level project player.
I'd say the Lions could get a sixth round pick for Harris. Maybe even a fifth if you trade him to the right team.
Ifeatu Melifonwu

This one is a bit of a long shot. It's just not working out with the former third round pick. Melifonwu has shown a couple flashes of good play, but he's also shown flashes of really bad play. Especially against the Panthers last season.
I just don't know where he fits in at this point. He's tried to work at both corner and safety and neither has worked out. With all the additions to the secondary this offseason, Melifonwu has found himself even more buried than he was before.
The reason that this is a long shot is that teams might not feel like there's value there for a trade and the Lions might just decide to cut him. I'm taking the Riley Patterson trade approach here. If the Lions can find themselves getting a conditional seventh round pick by moving Melifonwu, that's better than nothing.
What you have to hope for is that team sees Melifonwu as a player they can build up.
