The Bears signed Davis to a 3-year, $30M deal on Monday, adding a great experienced guard to their offensive line, as GM Ryan Poles continues to hit home runs for Chicago. Davis is a very solid interior offensive lineman, playing over 1,000 snaps in each his last 2 full seasons. Until injury cut his 2022 season short, Davis was having his best season yet, showing great improvement in some technical areas that stumped him early on. This was a great addition for the Bears, who are on a hot streak the last 7 days, giving Bears fans tons of hope for 2023.

Bears G Nate Davis Film Breakdown

Strengths:

  1. Physicality: Nate Davis is a strong and physical player who can overpower defenders at the point of attack. He has good size for a guard, standing at 6'3" and weighing 313 pounds, and can use his strength to drive defenders off the line of scrimmage.
  2. Run blocking: Davis is a solid run blocker who can create lanes for his running backs to run through. He has good technique and leverage in his blocks, and can sustain blocks for extended periods of time.
  3. Improving pass blocking: While Davis struggled in pass protection early in his career, he has shown improvement in this area. He has good footwork and hand placement, and can anchor against bull rushes from defenders.
  4. Durability: Davis has been relatively durable during his time in the NFL, having played in 31 out of a possible 32 games over the past two seasons.

Weaknesses:

  1. Inconsistent technique: While Davis has shown improvement in his pass blocking, his technique can still be inconsistent at times. He needs to work on maintaining good hand placement and footwork throughout the course of a game.
  2. Penalties: Davis has been prone to committing penalties, particularly holding penalties. This can be costly for his team and stall drives.
  3. Limited mobility: While Davis is a strong and physical player, he does not possess elite mobility or lateral quickness. This can make it difficult for him to block defenders in space or get to the second level of the defense.
