One of the Tennessee Vols‘ top 2024 recruiting targets announced his commitment date this week.

Four-star edge rusher Jonathan Echols, 6-foot-4/215 lbs from Bradenton, FL (originally from Georgia), announced on Monday that he plans to commit on July 4 (2023 five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, another massive Vols target, is also committing on July 4).

Echols has offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Texas, among many others.

The talented recruit is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 9 player in the state of Florida. He’s also rated as the No. 30 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

On3 director of recruiting Chad Simmons predicted on Sunday that Echols, who could also play tight end at the collegiate level, will commit to the Vols.

It’s a bit early for 2024 players to be committing, but Echols told On3 that he’s ready to make that decision.

“I’ve found my home, so I am ready to commit,” said Echols to On3.

While the prediction from Simmons is encouraging, we can’t rule out Georgia for Echols. He grew up a Georgia fan and he’s from the Peach State.

The Vols don’t currently have any players committed to their 2024 recruiting class.
