Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Alontae Taylor was the first former UT player to hear his name called in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The New Orleans Saints selected Taylor with the No. 49 overall pick (second round) in the draft.

The expectation was that Taylor would be drafted on day two, but most folks expected the Tennessee native to go in the third round.

Taylor was likely drafted in the second round thanks to his speed (4.36 in the 40 yard dash)  and his position versatility (he can play either cornerback or safety).

The former Vol will join several former Tennessee players in New Orleans, including Alvin Kamara, Shy Tuttle, Ethan Wolf, and Marquez Callaway.
