A Tennessee Vols reporter suggested a great new tradition for UT football that I think Josh Heupel needs to adopt.

Wes Rucker, who covers the Vols for 247Sports, proposed that Tennessee give the number 27 to a player each year that earns the honor of wearing it.

The number 27 was the number of legendary Vol linebacker Al Wilson, who was honored at Saturday’s game.

Numbers aren’t retired in college football like they are in college basketball, so this would be a great way to honor one of the best Tennessee players of all time.

Wilson, a former first-round pick who reached five NFL Pro-Bowls, joined Tennessee for the Vol Walk on Saturday before UT’s matchup against South Carolina.

The Jackson, TN native was recently inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
