2022 four-star edge rusher James Pearce is one of the highest-rated players in the Tennessee Vols’ 2022 signing class.
Pearce, 6-foot-5/220 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 20 edge rusher in the country and the No. 9 player in North Carolina.
On3, a relatively new recruiting service that is quickly becoming a go-to destination for recruiting news, has a more favorable view of Pearce. They rate the Charlotte native as a five-star recruit.

Not only is Pearce a talented player who should have a big impact on quarterbacks in the SEC in the coming years, but he also has some much-needed swagger.
Pearce, who signed with Tennessee in December, recently spoke to VolQuest about his thoughts on the Vols and his enrollment at UT next summer.
And he has a clear goal upon arriving at Tennessee.
“I’m really looking forward to having fun and getting the job done – whooping butt and taking names,” said Pearce to VolQuest.
You have to love hearing this if you’re a Tennessee fan. The Vols need some swagger on the field — and not just from one player.
Tennessee has to go into every game expecting to dominate. If they don’t expect to win, they’re doomed to lose.
It sounds like confidence isn’t a trait that Pearce is lacking. The Vols need to sign another class full of recruits like Pearce.
