2022 five-star defensive lineman Walter Nolen is one of the highest-rated recruits in the nation.
And one national recruiting analyst believes the Tennessee Vols are the front-runners (for now) to land his commitment.
Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Gorney said this week he believes it’s a “fact” that Tennessee is the current front-runner for Nolen. Gorney’s comments come after the five-star recruit transferred to Powell High School near Knoxville.
“Getting Nolen to Knoxville for his senior year is great news for the Vols as he’s close, he could feel more settled there, he could visit campus whenever he wants,” said Gorney this week.
“Tennessee is now the front-runner in his recruitment and the ball is in coach Josh Heupel’s and position coach Rodney Garner’s court to make it happen,” added Gorney.
There’s obviously a long way to go in this recruiting battle, so being the front-runner in July doesn’t necessarily mean the Vols are going to land Nolen.
But still, it’s certainly a good spot for Tennessee to be in right now. And if the Vols do manage to land his commitment, it will be a massive win for Heupel in his first year as Tennessee’s head coach.
Nolen, 6-foot-4/300 lbs, is originally from Memphis the Memphis area. He’s rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 player in Tennessee and the No. 1 defensive lineman in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 3 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.
