The Tennessee Vols are one of three teams in the mix for a talented 2023 defensive back from Alabama.

Three-star cornerback Rickey Gibson announced his top three schools this week and he included the Vols, along with Georgia and Penn State.

Gibson, 6-foot/171 lbs from Trussville, AL, is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 48 cornerback in the nation and the No. 24 player in the state of Alabama.

The Alabama native spoke to Rivals.com this week about his recruitment and he explained what he likes about Tennessee.

“I like coach (Tim) Banks (DC), coach (Willie) Martinez (CB), and coach (Josh) Heupel,” said Gibson. “Knoxville is a great town and their fanbase is great. I like coach Heupel’s energy as well.”

Gibson also told Rivals that his relationship with coaches will be a driving factor in his decision, which seemingly bodes well for the Vols’ chances.

Georgia, as always, will be tough to beat. But there’s no guarantee that Gibson will be a “take” for the Bulldogs.

Gibson told Rivals that he hopes to commit on August 14, which means we won’t have to wait much longer to see if Tennessee comes out on top in this recruiting battle.
