The Tennessee Vols are one of the programs still in the mix to land a commitment from 2023 four-star safety DaKaari Nelson.

Nelson, 6-foot-3/203 lbs from Selma, AL, is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 18 safety in the nation and the No. 16 overall player in the state of Alabama.

The talented defensive back revealed his top six schools this week and he included Tennessee, along with Auburn, Clemson, Kentucky, Penn State, and Oregon.

Nelson spoke to Rivals.com last month about his recruitment and he had some positive things to say about the Vols.

“I have been up there twice and they are sticking out because of how long and consistent they have been in contact,” said Nelson. “Tennessee was my fourth offer and my first SEC offer. They have been keeping in close contact with not only me, but my family too through this whole process. That is very important to me as I work towards a decision.”

For now, there doesn’t appear to be a clear leader for Nelson. Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Eric Lammers said last month that this recruiting battle could come down to which program connects the best with Nelson’s family.

If that’s the case, then I think Tennessee should be in a pretty good spot. Based on the interviews we’ve heard with recruits over the last year, it sounds like the Vols coaching staff has done a fantastic job of connecting with recruits and their families.
