One of the most exciting moments in Tennessee Vols athletics history went down last weekend when UT’s baseball team walked off Wright State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Cleanup hitter Drew Gilbert, a sophomore from Minnesota, crushed a grand slam over the right field wall to give the Volunteers a thrilling 9-8 win.

The video of the walk-off grand slam has been viewed over a million times. And several folks have noticed that Vols baseball coach Tony Vitello immediately took off running out of the frame of the video after the home run.

Thanks to a Tennessee fan (Twitter user @Reid_Saperstein) that was in the crowd for the celebration, we now have the answer to where Vitello was running.

And it’s awesome.

Vitello was so excited after Gilbert’s grand slam that he ran straight to the fans. It was a moment of pure excitement that was as genuine as it gets.

Check it out.

There you go. Mystery solved.

Tony Vitello is even more awesome than we realized.
