The Vanderbilt Commodores can help the Tennessee Vols out this weekend when it comes to landing 2024 five-star offensive lineman Jordan Seaton.
Seaton took an unofficial visit to Tennessee last weekend (after canceling his official visit to Oklahoma) for the Vols' 41-20 win against South Carolina.
The Washington DC native's visit reportedly went extremely well (basically as good as it could've gone for Tennessee), but this is a recruiting battle that's going to do go down to the wire. Tennessee made a great impression on Seaton, but other programs like Alabama and Florida are still major threats to land the coveted offensive lineman.
Speaking of Florida, that's where Seaton will be this weekend. The five-star recruit will take an official visit to Florida for the Gators' matchup against Vanderbilt (4:00 PM ET on Saturday).
Seaton spoke to 247Sports ahead of his visit to Gainesville and he mentioned that he'll be keeping a close eye on how the offensive line plays.
“I really want to see how the o-line is going to play,” said Seaton to 247Sports. “Just want to see how that goes."
A big performance by Vanderbilt's defensive line could help eliminate the Gators from Seaton's recruitment (obviously we don't know for sure that it would, but it sounds like it could help).
Vanderbilt is averaging just 1.67 sacks per game (No. 96 in the nation) so far this season, so it's no guarantee that they'll be able to fluster Florida's offensive line.
Commodores linebacker CJ Taylor, however, has three sacks on the season and has the potential to create some havoc in the Gators' backfield. If he can get home a couple of times against Graham Mertz, it could be enough to give Seaton pause when it comes to Florida.
A Vandy win would obviously be great for Tennessee (it would put the Vols back in front of the Gators in the SEC East, despite UT's loss to Florida last month). But Tennessee would probably settle for a strong performance from Vanderbilt's front seven against a Florida offensive line that Seaton will be watching closely.
Seaton is a player that could take Tennessee's 2024 recruiting class to another level. If the Vols want to continue to be a threat to win the SEC on an annual basis, landing players like Seaton is a must.
