Alvin Kamara helped Tennessee’s pitch to David Gabriel Georges, but Josh Heupel has another former Vol that could help even more
Josh Heupel made a brilliant move when he brought former Tennessee Volunteers running back Alvin Kamara to Knoxville for David Gabriel Georges’ official visit, but that’s not the only former Vol who can help UT’s cause.
The Tennessee Vols made a brilliant move when they brought former UT running back Alvin Kamara to Knoxville for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges’ official visit.
Gabriel Georges, who is also considering Ohio State, is a huge fan of Kamara. And bringing the New Orleans Saints star to Tennessee for the official visit made an impression on the five-star recruit.
“The Alvin Kamara stuff, it matters,” said Gabriel Georges’ uncle to On3 after the visit. “I’ve been watching David consume a lot of Alvin Kamara highlights. It’s kind of surreal them having a relationship.”
Kamara isn’t the only former Vol who can help give Tennessee an edge in this recruiting battle.
Josh Heupel should call up former Vols wide receiver Josh Palmer to help recruit David Gabriel Georges
Vols head coach Josh Heupel, if he hasn’t already, would be wise to give former Tennessee wide receiver Josh Palmer a call to help with Gabriel Georges’ recruitment.
Gabriel Georges plays high school football at Baylor School in Chattanooga (where players live on campus), but he’s a native of Quebec. It’s where he’s grown up and it’s where his family resides.
Palmer, who is entering his second season with the Buffalo Bills after starting his NFL career with the Los Angeles Chargers, also grew up in Canada (Brampton, Ontario) before transferring to St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida at 15 years old to play high school football.
So not only does Palmer know what it’s like to grow up in Canada and then play college football at Tennessee, but he also understands what it’s like to move to the United States in high school for the sole reason of playing football.
“I knew that [with] what I wanted to achieve in order to play college football and professional football, that I needed the exposure,” said Palmer in 2021. “Moving to St. Thomas was definitely a business move at a young age with my family.”
Palmer also understands what it’s like to be on his own in high school while his family is back in Canada.
“I moved away when I was young but, even at that time, I wouldn’t suffer from homesickness,” said Palmer before getting drafted. “Sometimes my parents would get mad at me because I wouldn’t call them.”
Connecting Gabriel Georges with Palmer may not be what seals the deal for the Vols in this battle, but the former Tennessee wide receiver could certainly answer any questions that Gabriel Georges has about what it’s like to play on Rocky Top as a native of Canada.
