The San Francisco Giants just made former Tennessee coach Tony Vitello’s life a lot easier
Former Tennessee Volunteers head coach Tony Vitello’s life just got a lot easier with the San Francisco Giants thanks a smart (and much-needed) move by the organization.
Earlier this week, I speculated that San Francisco Giants manager Tony Vitello is being sabotaged by one of his coaches.
Some readers suggested that was hyperbolic. Maybe it was.
But that coach was “reassigned” by the Giants on Friday, so clearly the organization felt he wasn’t helping the team win games.
Here’s the backstory in case you missed it.
Giants third base coach Hector Borg has been bad this season. He’s been so bad that a Giants fan put together a compilation of his bad sends.
Borg is a baseball lifer who signed with the Giants as a young international free agent in 2004. He’s had to grind his way to the big leagues. I speculated that maybe Borg doesn’t love that Vitello stepped right into a manager’s job without having previous big league experience.
It’s not often that you see a third base coach get fired in season, but you also don’t often see a third base coach that’s been as bad as Borg has been this season.
Unfortunately, we don’t know if Borg was actually sabotaging Vitello or if he’s just a really terrible third base coach.
But what we do know is that Borg is no longer the Giants’ third base coach, and it’s one less question that Vitello will have to answer every night from reporters.
