An elite 2027 four-star running back who was previously planning to take an official visit to Tennessee is now no longer planning to take the visit.

On3’s Chad Simmons reported on Tuesday that four-star running back Tre Segarra has canceled his official visit to Tennessee following an official visit to LSU that reportedly went very well.

Simmons noted that Tennessee had previously emerged as a “major contender” for Segarra.

“The Tigers impressed not only Segarra but his family as well, and multiple people close to the recruitment believe LSU made a significant move… Segarra no longer plans to take his official visit to Tennessee, according to sources,” reported Simmons.

Segarra, 5-foot-10/205 pounds from Duncan, SC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 5 running back in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of South Carolina.

Tennessee could sign two running backs during the 2027 recruiting cycle

2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges is obviously at the top of the recruiting board for Tennessee, but the Vols are expected to sign two running backs during the 2027 cycle.

That’s in part because Gabriel Georges is open to playing in a committee in college.

“He’s an instant impact type player,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price last December of Gabriel Georges. “He really is. And I will say this — he’s big on having someone to help share the load. He does not want to be a guy who carries it 30 times. He wants to be a guy who carries it 18 times and makes the 18 (carries) count. So, I think he wants other backs around him. He definitely wants to be the guy, he just wants to be the guy in moderation.

“If you get into the right kind of game, sure he’s gonna carry it 30 times and he isn’t going to complain. But I think he wants help around him. He doesn’t want it to be him every game, all game. And that’s kind of been Tennessee’s thought process. Except for the Dylan Sampson year, they’ve done a nice job of balancing and sharing carries.”

Tennessee is in the mix for 2027 three-star running back Asa Barnes, 5-foot-11/200 pounds from Martin, TN.

Barnes, though, is in the middle of official visits right now. He recently took an official visit to Arkansas, and he’s planning to visit USC this upcoming weekend before taking an official visit to Tennessee later this month.
