ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler thinks a former Tennessee Vols standout could be on the verge of earning a big pay day.

Fowler pointed out former Vols defensive back Alontae Taylor, who is in his fourth season with the New Orleans Saints, as a player who could receive an contract extension in the next two months.

“Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor has kept lines of communication open with New Orleans in recent months,” wrote Fowler. “Taylor has inside-out scheme flexibility and three pass deflections through five games. His situation could be like the 49ers’ Deommodore Lenoir, who got a five-year, $89.8 million extension last midseason.”

Alontae Taylor has developed into a solid player for the New Orleans Saints

Taylor, a second round selection by the Saints in the 2022 NFL Draft, has developed into a reliable starter in New Orleans.

The former Vol started nine games as a rookie in 2022. Last season, Taylor started in 15 games for the Saints while totaling 89 tackles, four sacks, and 16 passes defensed (all career highs).

In five games so far this season, Taylor has 22 tackles and a sack.

Quality defensive backs can be hard to find in the NFL. It sounds like the Saints don’t have any intentions of letting Taylor leave New Orleans.
