A former Tennessee Vols graduate assistant was let go by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday just three months after he was hired.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Friday morning that Pittsburgh “parted ways” with assistant special teams coach Derius Swinton.
Schefter reported that the Steelers parted ways with Swinon due to a violation of club policy.
Swinton was hired by the Steelers in February after spending the last three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Derius Swinton was a graduate assistant at Tennessee during the final two years of the Phillip Fulmer era
Swinton, who played college football at Hampton from 2003 to 2006, got his start in coaching at Tennessee in 2007.
The Virginia native served as a defensive graduate assistant under Phillip Fulmer in 2007 and 2008.
Swinton hasn’t returned to the college ranks since his time at Tennessee.
One of Swinton’s stops in the NFL was with the Denver Broncos in 2013 and 2014. At the time, Denver had so much Volunteer orange on the roster and coaching staff that Fulmer made the trip to Colorado for a visit.

At this time, it’s unclear what club policy led to Pittsburgh parting ways with Swinton.
