The national media, specifically ESPN, is sleeping on a key Tennessee Vols position group ahead of the 2024 season.

ESPN recently detailed the top 10 returning pass catchers in college football for the 2024 season and not a single Tennessee wide receiver received a vote.

That's a bit surprising considering a Tennessee wide receiver (Jalin Hyatt) won the Biletnikoff Award in 2022. And since then, the Vols have landed some elite talent at wide receiver via high school recruiting and the NCAA transfer portal.

Tennessee's wide receivers should be in for a huge season

The Vols could have the most dynamic wide receiver group in the nation with Nico Iamaleava under center for Tennessee in 2024.

For starters, Tennessee is getting Bru McCoy back. The California native is a go-to option in third down situations thanks to his ability to gain extra yards after contact. McCoy is also one of the best blocking wide receivers in the nation.

There's also Squirrel White, who will be a junior in 2024. White is coming off a fantastic sophomore season that saw the Alabama native catch 67 passes for 803 yards and two touchdowns. Not bad for a second year SEC player.

Additionally, the Vols will feature Tulane transfer Chris Brazzell (44 receptions for 711 yards and five touchdowns in 2023) along with true freshman Mike Matthews (five-star recruit) and Braylon Staley (four-star recruit).

Dont'e Thornton, who was heating up for the Vols after moving to the outside last season, will return in 2024 after suffering a season-ending injury in 2023.

Kaleb Webb, Chas Nimrod, and Nathan Leacock will provide quality depth for the Vols in 2024.

The Vols' offense was a bit "subdued" last season due to a drop off in quarterback play. But that's not a good reason to sleep on Tennessee's wide receiver group in 2024. The Vols' pass catchers are poised to make the national media look foolish this fall.
