New report confirms suspicions about the Tennessee Vols’ NIL offer to 5-star RB David Gabriel Georges
The Tennessee Volunteers are hoping to land 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges on July 22.
The Tennessee Vols and the Ohio State Buckeyes are the final two schools for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, who is set to announce his commitment on July 22 in Chattanooga.
Gabriel Georges is expected to become the highest paid high school running back of all time regardless of which program he signs with.
The decision, however, will not be based solely on who has the biggest offer.
“We understand there is an opportunity for him to get ahead in life because of NIL and the opportunities he’ll get, but that’s not the main thing,” said Gabriel Georges’ uncle to On3 earlier this month. “That’s never been the main thing. We played the long game to benefit him so he can basically maximize his earning potential but that was just a good business strategy. We want him to get that second NFL contract. It’s not like we are sitting in meetings saying we need this or force that. It was always very respectful conversations and people will present packages and if there are things to tweak, but it’s not about the money. It’s about him being very, very comfortable where he is at so he can perform the way he’s been performing since he was 5-years old.”
Tennessee has the biggest offer on the table
NIL is still obviously a factor in the decision, but it’s not the main factor.
The speculation over the last couple of weeks has been that Tennessee has the biggest NIL offer on the table for Gabriel Georges.
On Monday, On3’s Chris Low confirmed that’s the case.
Tennessee’s offer is for three years and in the “$2 million range annually”.
Ohio State’s offer is more than $1 million annually.
“The offer from Tennessee, which just recently became an Adidas school after signing a massive 10-year deal with the apparel company, was the highest,” wrote Low. “According to sources, the Vols’ total package is for three years and in the $2 million range annually. The Buckeyes are also prepared to pay Gabriel Georges more than $1 million annually with a multi-year deal.”
That’s crazy money for a player who has never taken a college football snap, but all of the evidence suggests Gabriel Georges will be more than worth it. He’s a dynamic running back who can be a game changer from day one (he turned 18 this summer, which means he’ll be 19 as a true freshman). The five-star recruit is 5-foot-11/210 pounds, which is close to the size of some current star NFL running backs (Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, for example, is 5-foot-9/202 pounds).
No one knows how Gabriel Georges’ future will play out, but based on what we’ve seen from him — the dedication to the game he shows (the kid has a clean diet — no junk food — and is a true student of the game) and his physical abilities — offering $2 million a year is a “risk” worth taking.
