The Tennessee Vols followed a common mantra back in 2022: "look good, feel good. Feel good, play good." It served them well in a 44-6 blowout of the Kentucky Wildcats back on October 29, 2022 inside Neyland Stadium.
Now, the Vols are looking to repeat that same success – and look – two years later against that same foe.
Tennessee announced on Monday morning that they will be going with the same "dark mode" look that they wore against Kentucky two years ago when the teams meet on Saturday night in Knoxville.
With a nod to the Venom film franchise, the Vols revealed in the video they'll be sporting the black helmet, jersey, and pants combination that has become popular with a sizeable portion of the fanbase. Fitting, given it's around Halloween again, but it's hard to deny how good the black with the orange numbers looks.
Between the uniforms and the Vols' aggressive defense, life was tough for the Wildcats in Knoxville last time around, particularly for former Kentucky and current Titans QB Will Levis. Tennessee forced 3 interceptions and held Levis to under 100 yards passing.
With this version of the Vols defense playing at an elite level this year – and Kentucky being one of the worst offensive teams in the country – a similar type of result could take place on Saturday night when toe meets leather around 7:45 pm ET inside Neyland Stadium.
