Former Tennessee Vols standout Tobias Harris has had quite the lengthy and impressive career in the NBA.

And at the start of the 2026 NBA free agency period, Harris just landed what’s likely his best championship opportunity — and with quite the hefty pay day to go along with it.

Per ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Harris is signing a two-year, $31 million deal with the defending NBA Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs.

Harris joins a San Antonio roster that made it through 2024-25 NBA champion Oklahoma City in the Western Conference finals this year. However, they collapsed in a number in NBA Finals games against the New York Knicks, including blowing a 29-point lead in a 107-106 Game 4 loss.

The former Tennessee standout should bring some veteran leadership and scoring to San Antonio. Harris was a key part in helping the Detroit Pistons end a five-year playoff drought and ascend to the top of the Eastern Conference standings in 2025-26.

The Pistons made the playoffs in 2024-25, exiting in the first round. Last season, they earned the top seed before bowing out to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs. Harris averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game last year for Detroit.

Playing alongside Victor Wembanyama and the rest of a loaded roster, it’s a great opportunity for the VFL to potentially reach that elusive goal next year and raise that elusive Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy after 15 years.
