The Tennessee Vols are ‘heavily in the mix’ for a coveted SEC transfer pitcher
Josh Elander and the Tennessee Volunteers are among the teams “heavily in the mix” for an SEC transfer left-handed pitcher. The Vols are looking to make some big-time transfer additions this offseason.
Josh Elander and the Tennessee Vols are one of three programs that are “heavily in the mix” for an SEC transfer LHP.
Mississippi State transfer LHP Charlie Foster is a coveted player in the portal, and the Vols are showing interest.
South Carolina and Florida State are also in the mix.
“Sources tell On3 that the three schools heavily in the mix for Foster are Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida State,” reported On3’s Pete Nakos on Friday. “He has 54 career strikeouts in 47.2 innings of work.”
Foster, 6-foot-4/205 pounds from Snellville, GA, was a sophomore in Starkville this past season.
The Mississippi State transfer has swing and miss stuff, but he struggled with consistency last season while pitching to a 6.69 ERA. Still, the talent and upside is there.
Tennessee is trending to receive a visit from a transfer infieler
Nakos noted earlier this week that Tennessee is showing interest in Ole Miss transfer infielder Brayden Randle.
Randle, who played in the outfield during postseason play, entered the NCAA transfer portal this week after Ole Miss was eliminated from the College World Series. He’s known for his ability to be clutch in big moments (he hit .458 in postseason play this season).
“I’m proud of him because in the biggest moments, I don’t know if he sees it, but we see it,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco during the postseason. “The pulses slow. He wants those big moments. There’s certain guys that won’t pull the trigger. Certain guys that are different in those moments. He’s almost better in those moments.”
Nakos reported on Friday that “Mississippi State and Tennessee are expected to land the first two visits” from Randle.
Randle started 45 games at shortstop for Ole Miss last season.
