It's still early, but College Football Playoff scenarios are starting to take shape and the Tennessee Vols have put themselves in a great position after the first month of the 2024 season.

The Vols are currently ranked No. 4 in the AP Top 25 poll thanks to Georgia's loss to Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night.
For now, 247Sports has Tennessee as a No. 6 seed in the College Football Playoff, which means they would host a playoff game.
247Sports has Iowa State traveling to Knoxville as the No. 11 seed to take on Tennessee in that first round matchup. They predict that the Vols will win that matchup which would set up a game against Miami in the Peach Bowl for a chance to reach the semifinals.
No matchup in the playoff will be easy, but playing against Iowa State would seem to be a favorable matchup for Tennessee (at least more favorable than playing one of other lower seeds, such as Oregon, Penn State, or Georgia).
The Cyclones are 4-0 this season. They narrowly beat Iowa in Week 2, escaping with a 21-20 win.

The Vols have an obvious depth and talent advantage over Iowa State. If Tennessee plays their game and doesn't have a random letdown, that's a game the Vols should win.
Of course, there's a long way to go to get to that point. If the season plays out as the Vols are hoping, they'll have a bye in the first round.
