One of the Tennessee Vols’ top recruiting targets is 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.
Gabriel Georges, 6-foot/205 lbs from Chattanooga, TN (he’s a native of Quebec), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 running back in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee. He’s also rated as the No. 14 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.
The coveted five-star recruit had a massive game this past weekend, rushing for 432 yards and seven touchdowns in a state playoff win against McCallie.
Tennessee Vols receives some good and bad news in their pursuit of David Gabriel Georges
Every program in the nation would almost certainly love to have Gabriel Georges on their roster.
It’s Tennessee, Georgia, and Ohio State, however, that are viewed as the three teams with the best chance to land the talented running back.
Georgia could soon be exiting the picture thanks to their pursuit of 2027 five-star running back Kemon Spell, a former Penn State commit.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the Bulldogs are “separating themselves” in the battle for Spell.
“After a handful of conversations, it’s clear Georgia has put itself in a really good spot,” wrote Fawcett. “The Bulldogs have started to separate themselves and have now emerged as the team out front in Spell’s recruitment.”
This is good news for the Vols in the sense that it will likely remove Georgia from the Gabriel Georges sweepstakes (if the Bulldogs can close the deal with Spell).
On the other hand, Ohio State is also in the mix for Spell. If Georgia wins that recruiting battle, the Buckeyes will likely go all-in on trying to land Gabriel Georges.
Essentially, we may be looking at a Tennessee vs Ohio State battle for one of the top 2027 recruits in the nation.
The Vols are in a good position right now for Gabriel Georges. But going head to head against Ohio State for a five-star recruit is always an uneasy spot to be in for Tennessee.
There’s still a long way to go in this battle, but it’s shaping up to be a slugfest between the Vols and the Buckeyes.
