The Tennessee Vols managed to avoid what would've been a disastrous situation on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, a report from On3 stated that Vols true freshman defensive back Boo Carter was considering entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Carter, a former four-star recruit from Chattanooga, is one of the most electric players on Tennessee's roster.

According to On3's report, Carter wants to see time on offense in 2025 (Carter was told by Tennessee's coaching staff before he committed that he would receive some snaps on offense).

Vols fans can officially exhale. Carter tweeted on Friday evening that he has a new NIL deal with The Volunteer Club.

Not only is Carter now fully expected to suit up for the Vols in 2025, but this likely means that Tennessee fans will see the dynamic athlete receive some snaps on offense next fall.

The Vols badly need some electric playmakers — the lack of explosiveness in Tennessee's offense was alarming at times in 2024. Carter is certainly a player that can provide that electricity.

Redoing NIL deals with players after every season is the new normal in college football, so it's not an indictment on Tennessee's coaching staff that Carter's status with the Vols seemingly hit a small speed bump this week.

Still, losing Carter would've been disastrous for Tennessee. Carter is one of the best players on the Vols' roster, he's extremely competitive, and he's already a fan favorite. Good on Tennessee for taking care of this situation quickly.
