A former Tennessee Vols player who left the program via the NCAA transfer portal after the 2024 season is impressing his new teammates.
Wide receiver Squirrel White spent the first three seasons of his career at Tennessee before entering the NCAA transfer portal earlier this offseason.
White, who is from Alabama, transferred to Florida State in January.
On Wednesday, at ACC Media Days, Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos was asked about White.
"Squirrel, he's amazing," said Castellanos. "He's fast. He's really fast. So getting back with him in the summer, we worked a lot. And we've been working a lot, just trying to build that timing, and being able to trust him on when he's going to come out of his break and stuff like that. But he's been full throttle in the summer and he looks great. He's moving really well. I'm just excited for you guys (reporters) to see him."
(White was still recovering during spring practice from a knee injury he suffered while he was at Tennessee.)
Castellanos' comments about White line up with what Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn said about the former Vol in March.
"He's a playmaker," said Malzahn. "He's got real speed. He's got experience. And I think that's important — especially for a new coordinator coming in, to have some guys with experience that's been successful. He's one of those guys. He's off to a great start, too. He's a veteran guy. You can tell he's got leadership ability. He's got a great spirit about him. Like I said, he's a playmaker — we just gotta find ways to get him the ball."
Barring injury, White will debut for the Seminoles on August 30, when Florida State opens the season at home against Alabama.
