A transfer guard that’s set to visit the Tennessee Vols this week once went viral for taking a punch directly to the face and not flinching.
California transfer guard Dai Dai Ames, 6-foot-2/190 pounds from Chicago, IL, is a former four-star recruit who started his career at Kansas State.
After his freshman season, Ames transferred to Virginia before landing at California for his junior season. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
Ames averaged 16.9 points per game while connecting on 38 percent of his three-point attempts at Cal last season.
The transfer guard is expected to be at Tennessee for a visit on Friday before visiting Xavier on Saturday.
Dai Dai Ames once went viral for taking a punch directly to the face
In a game against Providence in 2023, Ames was punched in the face by Friars guard Garwey Dual.
And Ames didn’t even flinch.
I don’t think anyone will be questioning Ames’ toughness after seeing that clip.
Both players, by the way, were ejected from the game after their run-in (Ames poked Dual in the eye during the play that led to the incident).
I haven’t seen a non-combat athlete take a punch like that since José Bautista kept his feet under him after taking a right hook from Rougned Odor straight to the face while standing at second base.
