Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin and former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer have quite a history.

When Kiffin was hired as the Tennessee Vols’ head coach in late 2008, he took a couple of shots at Meyer.

Kiffin, for example, told fans at a signing day celebration that Meyer tried to cheat to land wide receiver Nu’Keese Richardson during the 2009 recruiting cycle.

“I’m gonna turn Florida in right here in front of you,” said Kiffin at the signing day celebration. “While Nu’Keese was on campus, his phone kept ringing. One of the coaches says, ‘Who’s that?’ And he said, ‘Urban Meyer’…I love the fact that Urban had to cheat and still didn’t get him.”

Kiffin was reprimanded by the SEC for those remarks.

Meyer shared some brief thoughts on Kiffin during this week’s episode of The Triple Option, making it clear that he’s a big fan of his former rival.

“I’m impressed with Lane,” said Meyer. “I can tell story after story, because he wasn’t [mature] in 2008, when he came after us (at Florida) and all of that. We were like, ‘Who is this guy?’ And we’ve become, actually, pretty good friends. I just really admire the way he’s grown up and the job he’s done. Hell of a football coach.”

Credit to Meyer for not holding a grudge. Kiffin isn’t the same person he was 15 years ago.

It’s a shame we only got to see Kiffin and Meyer in the same conference for one season. Those two, at their peak, would’ve been absolute cinema.
