Trying to flip 5-star EDGE DJ Jacobs from Ohio State may be turning into exactly what Tennessee hoped it wouldn’t
The Tennessee Volunteers are hoping to flive 2027 five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs from the Ohio State Buckeyes, but the situation may be turning into something UT was hoping it wouldn’t.
The Tennessee Vols would love to flip 2027 five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs from the Ohio State Buckeyes.
And the Vols have the Adidas factor working in their favor.
But the situation may be turning into something the Volunteers were hoping it wouldn’t.
A bidding war is likely going to break out for DJ Jacobs
It feels like a bidding war is about to break out for Jacobs.
And that’s because Georgia and Miami are also in pursuit of the five-star EDGE. And anytime four heavyweights are in the mix for the same five-star recruit, it’s inevitable that a significant amount of money will be involved.
Georgia, for now at least, needs to up its offer to land Jacobs. Miami, on the other hand, is in the ballpark.
“A team source believes there’s a gap between Georgia’s NIL offer and the other programs,” reported Jordan D. Hill of Dawgs247. “… Miami is the team I believe is best positioned for Jacobs if he decides to reconsider his Ohio State commitment.”
If Tennessee wants to have a serious shot at flipping Jacobs, they’ll likely need to outbid every other offer. And with the Vols in strong pursuit of 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, I’m not sure that’s something they’d be willing to do — especially after the Chaz Coleman transfer fiasco this offseason. I’m not sure it would be wise for Josh Heupel and the Vols to throw another multi-million dollar offer to a young unproven pass rusher after Coleman and his alleged $2 million-plus deal didn’t pan out.
Tennessee would love to have Jacobs in orange and white, but the money situation has to make sense. And I’m just not sure it does for the Vols at this time.
But who knows, maybe that changes down the road…
