News that Tennessee Vols fans have been waiting for all summer is expected to finally drop in the very near future.
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Friday and he said that Tennessee’s long-awaited new apparel deal with Adidas should be announced in the coming weeks.
“I think they’re at the finish line (with Adidas),” said Hubbs. “And I think that it’s just a matter of a couple language things in the contract — a couple of cleanup things there — and I think that deal is going to get done. We all thought it would be done sometime in July, but I think that Tennessee is obviously doing their due diligence on this and making sure some things are worded the way they want, and everything is understood, and the commitment that’s going to be made there.
“So, I anticipate that coming as early as next week. If it’s not next week, I’ll be shocked if we don’t have a deal in place and formally announced in two weeks, but I do think there’s a chance that it could come late next week.”
Tennessee has been with Nike for the last decade (the Nike contract with UT runs through the 2025 season), so this is a huge change for the program, but Adidas is believed to be making the more lucrative offer. And in this new world of NIL, the financial aspect of the deal is important.
Plenty of Vols fans seem to be against the idea of switching to Adidas. But it’s important to note that Tennessee is expected to have a decent amount of control over the design process. It’s also worth noting that numerous high-profile athletes have recently signed deals with Adidas (such as 2026 five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys, one of the Vols’ top recruiting targets).

A little over two years ago, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart seemingly took a shot at the role that quarterbacks play in the Tennessee Vols’ offense (and other up-tempo offenses). Smart suggested that quarterbacks in “really fast” offenses aren’t true decision makers. “It’s like, a true quarterback is a decision-maker in our system because […]
