Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel and Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney met with reporters in Miami on Wednesday for a joint Orange Bowl press conference.

Swinney was asked a couple of questions about the Vols and he was more than complimentary toward Josh Heupel and the Tennessee football program.

(There were no hamburger questions in case you were wondering.)

“What Josh has done at Tennessee is incredible,” said Swinney. “I grew up watching Tennessee. He’s made Tennessee, Tennessee again. It’s good and bad. Because you know they’re really, really talented. They’ve got a great scheme. He’s got a great staff. Got a lot of respect for everything they do.”

Swinney also made it a point to say that Clemson will probably need to score more than 35 points to have a shot at beating the Vols.

“If you’re playing Tennessee, you better score,” said Swinney. “That’s all I know. We don’t score, we got no chance. Because these guys, they not only score a lot of points, they score really fast. It’s unbelievable, really.”

“I haven’t had a chance to really dive deeply into them, but I’ve watched them all year long,” added Swinney. “It’s incredible. They do an amazing job. And they’ve scored on everybody — everybody. I don’t think it’ll be a 6-3 game. All I know is 35 is probably not enough for the Tigers so we better find a way to score some points.”

It sounds like Dabo is going to be careful about not giving the Vols any bulletin board material over the next couple of weeks. After the way the burger comments went viral (even though Dabo really wasn’t talking trash about Tennessee), he’s probably doing all he can to avoid saying anything that might be perceived as a slight against the Volunteers.
