The Tennessee Vols are one of several programs set to receive an official visit from a coveted 2023 JuCo wide receiver.

Malik Benson told 247Sports this week that he plans to take an official visit to Tennessee in early June. He also has visits lined up for Oregon, LSU, and Georgia.

Benson is planning to visit Alabama as well, but that trip hasn’t been scheduled yet.

Benson, 6-foot-1/185 lbs from Lansing, KS, isn’t rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Don’t let the lack of a rating dissuade you from believing that Benson is an elite recruit — there’s a reason that SEC programs like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU, along with Tennessee, are pursuing him.

And it’s because he’s a fast player who has the speed to excel in the SEC.

Benson was recruited out of high school to run track. He didn’t have the grades, so he went the JuCo route, enrolling at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. Hutchinson is the same college that former Vols Cordarrelle Patterson and Tiyon Evans attended before landing in Knoxville (Evans transferred to Louisville after one season at UT).

Fast wide receivers tend to find great success in Josh Heupel’s offense, which is one reason why Benson is interested in Tennessee. We’ll see where Benson’s recruitment stands after he takes his visits, but the Vols should stand a good shot at landing the talented wide receiver.
