FOXBORO, Mass. — Trent Brown cleared some things up regarding his limited participation during training camp on Monday.
He has been absent for a few days, and when in attendance, he has had a much lighter workout. Brown has spent a lot of his time on the lower conditioning fields.
But the reason for all of this remained a question for much of training camp. But not anymore.
Brown confirmed that he has been recovering from an injury.
“I’m doing everything I can to get back out there,” he said. “It’s definitely frustrating from a personal standpoint.”
“Even though I’m not practicing, I’m still doing everything I can outside of here to prepare for that,’ Brown added. “But, again, there’s nothing like full-speed reps.”
There was some speculation that this could all be related to a "hold-in," which players have done in an effort to earn more money. But, that was not the case, with Brown laughing and shutting down those rumors, saying: “No, not at all.”
However, the good news is this injury does not appear to be longterm, with Brown saying he will "absolutely" be ready to go for the Patriots Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brown is entering his second year with the Patriots and eighth season in the league. He is a key part of the offensive line, but there have been clear struggles throughout training camp with Brown being one of a few starters who have been missing. Michael Onwenu remains out due to offseason ankle surgery, while Cole Strange has been sidelined after suffering an injury in practice.
But Brown's injury does not appear to be serious, which bodes well for the Patriots when the season starts.
