The New Orleans Saints continue to make moves to free up cap space during this off-season.

One player just helped them do that, and it was a pretty cool gesture from him in order to do what's best for the team.

Former Pro Bowl kicker Wil Lutz agreed to take a pay cut in order to lower his cap hit for this season in New Orleans.

The decision will save the Saints $1.5 million in cap space for the upcoming season.

Accordingly, this move is an absolute win for the Saints. They didn't have to push any money down the road or add a void year to Lutz' contract.

Instead, Lutz stepped up and understood the situation.

He and the Saints agreed to a new deal that would lower his cap hit this year, saving the organization some much-needed cap space.

They're searching for ways to get to cap compliancy, and this was another step in the right direction.

There were some beliefs that Lutz may be on his way out of New Orleans during this off-season. His play has declined a bit over the past two seasons, but injuries haven't helped that.

If he's back to being fully healthy, he can be a legit asset for the Saints at a better price than they expected before now.
