After Monday Night’s win and Week 3, the Lions could be getting phone calls to trade away a long-time Lion
The Lions may be ready to move on
What a win for the Detroit Lions over the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night. What a weird and crazy Week 3, as well. There were a ton of blocked field goals, crazy turnovers, and the Green Bay Packers lost. The other thing that happened is that multiple teams dealt with running back injuries. The Lions could help those teams shore up some depth.
The Lions could be getting calls about trading Craig Reynolds this week
I know everyone loves Craig Reynolds, and what’s not to love? He’s been a big part of this team since 2021, and he’s been the epitome of the team’s culture. Nobody wants to see him go, but this is a business, and Monday night showed that the Lions may be ready to move forward with younger guys.
Sione Vaki and Jacobs Saylors were the active running backs for the game, and both had some big moments. Saylors showed that he is ready to hold down the kick return spot with multiple returns of 25-30 yards. He’s earned the right to keep that job.
As for Vaki, he did leave the game with a groin injury. We’ll see how serious that is soon enough, but it’s worth noting that Terrion Arnold left Week 1’s game with a groin injury and returned to practice days later. Everyone is different, though. It’s clear the Lions want Vaki to be their RB3. He just needs to kick these soft tissue injuries.
The Los Angeles Chargers make the most sense in terms of who could call the Lions about Reynolds. They just lost Najee Harris for the rest of the season, and while they have first-round pick Omarion Hampton, they could use some veteran depth behind him. Reynolds could be that guy.
What could the Lions get for Reynolds? The best bet would be a 2026 sixth-round pick. The more likely outcome would be a seventh-rounder. That’s still pretty good considering you get something out of it instead of nothing.
We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks. The Lions may decide to just stand pat with what they have, and Vaki’s injury could make that an easier choice. However, I would not be surprised if the Lions received calls.
