Dalvin Cook put pen to paper on a free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens last week. Cook, who is just coming off of a lackluster run with the New York Jets, agreed to join Baltimore’s practice squad.

Cook was in the rumor mill with several teams after it was reported that he agreed to mutually part ways with the Jets. Among them, the Dallas Cowboys were linked with the four-time Pro Bowler, but in the end, the veteran running back decided to take his talents to Baltimore.

Michael Irvin believes that Cook should have instead joined the Cowboys for a few reasons.

"I think it's more of a mistake on Dalvin Cook's part," Irvin said during a recent appearance on FOX Sports 1's "Undisputed" program. "Dallas' rushing attack is ranked 14th with only 111 yards rushing, while the Ravens already ranked first with 159 yards rushing.

"If you're trying to tell people that you're still valuable, then it's about the impact that you'll have in the playoffs to the team that you're going to. You can't take the Ravens higher than the No. 1 rushing team in the National Football League, they're already there. … Now if he gone to Dallas and solidify that rushing game, played on that stage and made a difference, he could have revived his whole, you know, revived the least interest in him going forward. That's all he's trying to do in these playoffs right now so he can get a deal next year."

Dalvin Cook's golden opportunity

Cook will have two weeks to prove to Baltimore’s coaching staff that he should be elevated to the team’s active roster for its AFC divisional round matchup. At the moment, the Ravens are expected to continue to call on Gus Edwards and Justice Hill to anchor their No. 1 ranked rush offense.

Cook has tallied 8,079 yards from scrimmage over 88 career games played.
