Brother of former Jets head coach Robert Saleh goes viral for ripping Aaron Glenn after a historically bad start in New York
Saleh’s brother used cold hard facts to prove how bad things have gotten for the Jets.
The New York Jets have hit rock bottom. Five games in, and the Jets are the only team who have yet to win a game following a wild win for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The offense hasn’t been great, but that’s not the main issue in New York.
The problem is the defense. A defense that has All-Pros at all three levels is letting up an average of 31.4 points per game. They are being used as a “get right game” for opposing offenses. And to make matters worse, the man they hired and replaced Robert Saleh with, well, he’s a defensive-minded head coach.
That sparked Saleh’s brother to post on social media about just how bad things are with Aaron Glenn and the Jets right now.
Robert Saleh’s brother rips Aaron Glenn
“Last year the Jets were 2-3 playing for first place in their division when Woody Johnson declared that ‘the best roster in franchise history needed a spark.’ Since then the Jets defense has gone from first to worst donning a record of 3-14,” posted David Saleh on X-Twitter on Monday.
The Jets are the first team in NFL history to start 0-5 and not force a single turnover. When you have players like Quinnen and Quincy Williams in your front seven and then Sauce Gardner at corner, that almost feels impossible.
So what it tells me is that the defensive preparation is way off. You can’t have that many good players and let teams like the Dallas Cowboys, who were without their best skill player on offense, score nearly 40 on you. It’s unacceptable.
To learn more about the nightmareish performance from the Jets’ defense, I reached out to Mauricio Rodriguez of A to Z Sports Dallas.
“The Jets defense mightily struggled in three specific areas when facing the Cowboys on Sunday: Defending play action, tackling, and pass rushing. Javonte Williams rushed for 135 yards, 110 of which came after contact. At one point, Williams broke two tackles in the backfield to avoid a TFL and instead moved the chains. At another, he broke through on a 66-yard run. Tackling woes also showed up in the passing game, with Ryan Flournoy forcing three missed tackles, most notably on a 46-yard catch.”
“It was a lot of straight up bad football. As for the Cowboys’ play-action, Prescott’s four passing touchdowns came off of such plays, with him completing nine of 11 attempts. That caused miscommunication woes on Glenn’s defense, including on a 43-yard touchdown bomb to George Pickens. Sauce Gardner suggested postgame he was supposed to have safety help in that particular play. He didn’t get it, however.”
“The third and not least area the Jets struggled: Pass rush. The Cowboys played four backup offensive linemen on Sunday and the Jets had nothing to show for it. Prescott wasn’t sacked once and they only hit him three times. The amount of dropbacks he was pressured on was tied for his career lowest in a single game, per PFF.” -Rodriguez
Feels like the Salehs make a good point.
