ESPN sparks intrigue with intel that appears to reveal Bills plans just weeks before 2026 NFL Draft
The latest ESPN article may have shown the Buffalo Bills’ hand when it comes to the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. With several team needs, the article has it boiling down to two positions of need: wide receiver and linebacker.
The Buffalo Bills have plenty of work to do ahead of the upcoming NFL Draft. It’s really a toss-up with what the team is going to do.
Are they going to trade down if the board doesn’t fall their way? Will they be targeting a wide receiver early despite trading for wide receiver DJ Moore? Will some team needs be addressed early?
ESPN may have leaked the Buffalo Bills’ plans for the upcoming NFL Draft
Fortunately, ESPN may have leaked the Bills’ draft plans in an explosive article. It documents the biggest questions for all 32 NFL teams heading into the draft. For Buffalo, it comes down to two positions: linebacker and wide receiver.
The article asks whether or not the DJ Moore trade means the Bills can pass on a wide receiver early.
General manager Brandon Beane said that despite trading for Moore, it doesn’t stop them from drafting a receiver high. If the board falls the right way, don’t be surprised if that’s what happens.
Alaina Getzenberg opens up and discusses that exact point in the article, pointing to Beane’s comments at the meeting.
So, does trading for Moore stop the Bills from drafting a wide receiver high?
“Not quite. Trading for Moore gives the Bills flexibility to not have to address wide receiver in the first round and prioritize other needs, but it does not mean the position won’t and shouldn’t be considered early.
“Help is still needed from both a depth and talent perspective, and president of football operations and general manager Brandon Beane said Buffalo is still open to a receiver in the first round. The Bills have a variety of positions to address in the draft, and trading away their second-round pick limits some options, but an early receiver pick shouldn’t be ruled out.” – Alaina Getzenberg
Jordan Reid from ESPN also highlighted what he’s been hearing about the Bills entering the draft. Once again, they may have leaked the team’s plans while pointing to a specific linebacker that Buffalo could be targeting early. While linebacker isn’t as sexy as wide receiver, getting a middle linebacker is a major team need entering the draft.
Wide receiver and linebacker are the two positions with the most noise heading into the draft
“Wide receiver and linebacker are the two positions that have been heavily linked to the Bills. Even after the acquisition of Moore, they are looking for true separators who can play a multitude of spots in formations.
“On the linebacker front, one name to watch is Josiah Trotter (Missouri). He’s a high-upside option who can be a long-term contributor in the middle” – Jordan Reid
That’s about as clear as it gets without saying it outright. The Bills aren’t locked into one path, but the blueprint is starting to take shape.
If the right receiver falls, they won’t hesitate to give quarterback Josh Allen another weapon. If not, don’t be surprised if they pivot to linebacker and finally shore up the middle of the defense.
Either way, all signs point to Buffalo staying flexible and letting the board dictate everything. That might be exactly what puts them over the top in 2026.
