Ahead of the contest against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills will be shorthanded. Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, receiver Josh Palmer, and linebacker Shaq Thompson have all been ruled out, a big blow for both sides of the football.

A last-second addition to the injury report could spell disaster for Buffalo as nickel corner Taron Johnson is officially questionable after not appearing on the injury report all week. If Johnson is unable to play, expect to see an increase in reps for Cam Lewis in his absence. Perhaps, even, the team could give rookie Jordan Hancock some reps at the position; he’s flashed in some limited playing time, and the fan base has been clamoring to see him on the field more.

Johnson played 74% of the defensive snaps against the Panthers, with 45 total snaps, and added one snap on special teams.

Observations

Thompson was a surprise, along with Johnson. On Wednesday, when announcing some injuries, head coach Sean McDermott didn’t mention Thompson at all, who wound up being a late addition to the injury report and ultimately ruled out of the contest.

Buffalo is lacking on both offense and defense, and the latest blow with Johnson gives fans cause for concern heading into the highly anticipated matchup.

Fortunately, it looks like the team will have back both starting linebackers in Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard, along with kicker Matt Prater, who injured his kicking leg and was limited all week. Prater does not have a designation, which should be a good sign for him being available.

Buffalo will need all hands on deck to keep pace with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense. With multiple starters ruled out and others battling through injuries, depth will once again be tested on both sides of the ball when Kansas City heads to Buffalo on Sunday.
