Bills pushing hard against the NFL to give fans exactly what they want with a brand new stadium just months away from opening
The Buffalo Bills are entering a new era, with a brand new Highmark Stadium slated to open for the 2026 season. With such an enormous announcement, the Bills are trying desperately to get the NFL to give them a primetime window for the home-opener.
The Buffalo Bills are going to look a bit different in 2026. There’s a new head coach in Joe Brady, multiple new coaches on the staff, and two new coordinators. Not only that, but the Bills will be playing in their brand new stadium.
The new stadium looks gorgeous, but isn’t without its own controversies. People were upset over the size, color, and makeup of the new bison standing outside, but that’s another story.
With a brand new stadium and one of the best teams in all of football, the Bills are trying to get as many eyes on the first home game as possible. The latest report shares that the team is pushing the NFL to make the first home game a “prime-time spotlight.”
Buffalo Bills trying to get primetime treatment for home opener in 2026
Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News shared that team COO Pete Gueli said that the Bills have informed the NFL of their desire to launch the new Highmark Stadium in a primetime game.
“We’ve already been approached by networks that would like to have it,” Guelli said. “We’re just trying to work through that. It’s really a league decision [ . . . ] However it’s set up, we’re going to make sure that home opener is a big event.”
As Pro Football Talk reported, the prime-time packages are held by ESPN, NBC, and Prime Video. The opening game, as they reported, could happen on Sunday or Monday night of Week 1, or on Thursday, Sunday, or Monday night of Week 2.
No matter when the NFL ultimately slots it, the stage is already being set for something bigger than just a normal football game. This isn’t just a home opener, it’s an unveiling of a new era in Western New York.
If the league gives the Bills the primetime spotlight, the rest of the country is going to get a firsthand look at what Bills Mafia already knows. This team, this stadium, and this moment are built for it.
