Bills head coach Sean McDermott had powerful message about Josh Allen following historic performance against the Chiefs
All love for QB1.
Quarterback Josh Allen is elite, and he just keeps breaking records left and right.
In the win against the Kansas City Chiefs, Allen passed quarterback Cam Newton for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in NFL history, including playoffs. Not only that, but Allen became the first quarterback in NFL history to post 47 games with a rushing and passing touchdown.
With 79 total rushing touchdowns, including the postseason, Allen surpassed running backs Earl Campbell and Pete Johnson, quite the achievement from No. 17.
McDermott was asked about Allen’s performance and surpassing Campbell, specifically. Instead of focusing on the performance, he shifted toward the type of man that Allen is, both on and off the football field. It’s hard not to be passionate about QB1.
“That’s amazing, isn’t it? I mean, he’s an incredible player,” McDermott said. “Incredible human being, and to be able to, someone was asking me the other day about his impact on our community. Everybody sees the talent, everybody sees hurdling defenders, scrambling around, making great throws. I think that is awesome. What’s just as important, if not more important to community in my estimation is who he is as a person and the impact he’s made on this community.”
Bills Mafia can’t help but agree with McDermott’s comments
Talking about being an incredible human with high character, Allen always finds a way to give back not only to the community of Buffalo, but also to Firebaugh, California. During the offseason, Allen had a slew of partnerships aimed at giving back to both the Firebaugh and Buffalo communities. McDermott was quick to point out Allen’s upbringing as a big piece of why he is who he is today.
“You don’t find that everywhere. He’s a phenomenal player, and he’s got high character, and that comes from his family, of course, and God,” McDermott said.
Allen has shown a lot of love for the younger members of the Bills Mafia, often taking time to throw the ball around the stadium to younger fans and making sure that they feel important. During offseason training camp, Allen walked around the entire field signing autographs for fans. McDermott pointed to his impact on the children and what he means to Buffalo.
“So it just, it’s a real moment in Buffalo to watch him, and for the kids, the young people in this community to watch him, how he handles himself, certainly how he plays, and you see these kids with his jersey on and rightfully so,” McDermott said. “I stand by him because he’s that person, right? He’s certainly a great player, easy to stand by, great player, but you stand by a person who is both. He deserves all the accolades that he gets.”
As Allen continues to shatter records and raise the bar on the field, his impact away from it remains just as powerful. For Buffalo, there’s no mistaking it, the Bills don’t just have an elite quarterback; they have the kind of leaders a city can be proud of.
