Former Carolina Panthers standout quarterback will have a special role to play for the team during the 2026 NFL Draft
Every year, the NFL brings legends or current players to announce picks for the NFL Draft, and the Carolina Panthers have decided a former QB will announce one of the team’s selections.
The 2026 NFL Draft is just one week away from kicking off in Pittsburgh but the excitement coming out of the Carolinas is starting to pick up some steam after what the Carolina Panthers have been able to accomplish the last few months.
After clinching an NFC South and hosting a playoff game back in January, the Panthers have continued to make strides throughout the offseason leading up to the draft.
General manager Dan Morgan is building something special with this team and the fans are starting to feel it. As it relates to the draft, the Panthers will welcome new players to the mix and a former standout quarterback will have a special role to play.
Jake Delhomme to announce draft picks for the Carolina Panthers in Pittsburgh
The NFL announced on Thursday that each team will have a player representative of some kind announce picks on Days 2 and 3 of the draft. The representative for the Panthers will be former Pro Bowl quarterback Jake Delhomme. Delhomme will be announcing the team’s 51st overall pick in the second-round next Friday.
Welcoming a new draft pick to Carolina will be just as special for Delhomme. Delhomme went undrafted in 1997 and signed as a UDFA by the New Orleans Saints. Despite his draft status, Delhomme eventually found his home with the Panthers and went on to start 90 games for the team across seven seasons.
During the 2003-04 season, Delhomme led the Panthers to an 11-5 record and faced off against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII. In 2005, Delhomme led the Panthers to the NFC Championship Game while earning Pro Bowl recognition.
It’ll be great to see a franchise legend take to the podium and see Delhomme continue to rep the Panthers with pride. The Panthers social media account even posted this teaser video to make the announcement.
Back in 2019, Delhomme was inducted into the team’s Hall of Honor and remains the only quarterback in franchise history to receive the honor. Currently, Delhomme still works with the team as a Panthers Radio Network analyst.
Over the last few seasons, the Panthers have done a great job reuniting with all-time greats and getting them back involved with the franchise with Morgan, a former Panthers player himself, at the helm. The more the Panthers have these legends around, the better for the current players and the fan base showing the team is united as one.
