Packers superstar proves Bears QB Caleb Williams’ rapid ascent to stardom isn’t just off-the-field popularity
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is quickly earning some superstar level attention going into his third NFL season and Green Bay Packers star pass rusher Micah Parsons just added more fuel to that fire.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is officially the face of the NFL, at least the video game version of the NFL, after last week’s latest announcement that the third-year rising star will be the cover athlete of Madden NFL 27.
Immediately NFL fans grabbed their pitchforks saying how Williams “didn’t deserve it” and how he was the “most mid cover athlete” in the history of Madden. Truth is, he’s becoming a bigger star than most outside of the league give him credit for.
And one prominent player that knows best just gave Williams the ultimate vote of approval that only adds even more fuel to the fire.
Micah Parsons claims Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams is the best player in the entire NFL
We are in the heart of the NFL offseason, which is ranking season for people with nothing better to talk about. And the NFL teased the rankings that matter most, the Top-100 listed compiled by an annual poll voted on exclusively by active NFL players.
The teaser shared by the NFL’s official social media had a few athletes reveal their No. 1 player in the NFL. Green Bay Packers star pass rusher Micah Parsons didn’t hesitate to say the “Iceman” in Chicago.
Parsons got one opportunity to face Williams last season and it was the only game of the three matchups that the Packers beat the Bears, even though Parsons was unable to bring Williams down. The other two matchups, Parsons was forced to watch the “Iceman” take down his team from the sidelines after suffering a torn ACL.
“I can’t lie, watching that, seeing that, seeing (Caleb Williams) get that name (Iceman) and this right here,” Parsons said on a podcast from Bleacher Report. “It was just grrr.”
It was enough to earn a respectable admiration from an unlikely rival if Parsons in fact views Williams as THE top player in the NFL from last season. Fans won’t like that, especially fans in Green Bay.
Statistically, Williams was far from it and has plenty of room to improve. Yet, no one had more magical moments than Williams did last season in crunch time. It’s funny timing because head coach Ben Johnson was asked last week where Williams ranks among quarterbacks and wasn’t having it with that “subjective” conversation.
“What we’re all concerned about is winning ballgames,” Johnson said. “If that means top five quarterbacks based on wins, then I’m all for it. But that’s what we’re concerned about, every single week going into the game, finding a way to win that ballgame. I think he proved last year that if the game is close at the end, he’s going to go all out and become Superman at times to make some critical plays. That’s great. We continue to see his evolution as a quarterback.”
Once the rankings start rolling out, we’ll see how the rest of the league views Williams and what his official ranking will be after going unranked in 2024.
