The Chicago Bears are heading back home in Week 10 to take on the New York Giants coming off an offensive explosion in Week 9 to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Once again, the Bears aren’t looking too much into the opponent’s record this weekend and are aware of the potential challenges the Giants can bring coming into town.

Following Friday’s practice, the Bears have released the final injury report going into the weekend ruling out three players, including a key defensive starter, while having two offensive players listed as questionable. Here’s the full report:

Bears are set to be without a key piece of the defense with T.J. Edwards out for Week 10

Head coach Ben Johnson confirmed on Friday that linebacker T.J. Edwards suffered a broken hand in Week 9 and underwent surgery this week. Edwards was seen toward the end of last Sunday’s game wearing a cast on the injured hand. Additionally, he’s dealing with another hamstring issue, an issue that forced him to miss three games earlier in the season.

Johnson added Edwards is not expected to be placed on the injured reserve and expected to come back within the next four games with the hamstring injury being the biggest concern.

Without Edwards on the field, the difference is notable. According to Sports Info Solutions, the Bears are allowing a 70.3 completion percentage and 4.7 rushing yards per attempt with Edwards on the field. When he’s off the field, those numbers go up to a 74.3 completion percentage and 6.4 rushing yards per attempt. The overall pressure percentage drops as well from 36.6 to 33.6.

It’s not just his impact in coverage and run support that’ll be missing on Sunday. The Bears are also going up against a mobile quarterback in rookie Jaxson Dart and will be without a key spy option to account for Dart’s ability with his legs.

“I think that’s a big part of anytime you face a guy that’s got some mobility,” defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said. “It’s a huge issue defensively in terms of how you defend the offense. You can be in really good pass coverage and yet, if rush lanes get out of whack, now all of a sudden, he’s running for first downs.”

Other observations

  • RB D’Andre Swift will be questionable for Sunday’s game after missing last week with a groin injury. It’s worth noting Swift was a limited participant on Thursday and had the personal tag added on Friday after not participating, a sign his absence might not be injury related.
  • The Bears will be getting TE Cole Kmet and WR Luther Burden III back out of the concussion protocol. Burden missed last week’s game and Kmet was injured during the game in Week 9.
  • WRs DJ Moore and Rome Odunze continue to tough through lingering injuries as both players went from DNP/Limited/Full throughout the week and should be go to for Sunday.
  • LB Amen Ogbongbemiga will be making his season-debut after being activated off the injured reserve, adding some depth at linebacker with Edwards out and he brings a key piece to the special teams unit.
