Cleveland Browns named a possible landing spot for one of the top NFL free agents left, and fans would be thrilled for an obvious reason

Cleveland Browns still have a need on their defense, and Fox has named them as a fit for one of the top NFL free agents remaining. A lot of fans would be thrilled with the Ohio State connection.

We’ve made it through a good part of the NFL offseason and are just a couple of weeks away from the Cleveland Browns holding their mandatory minicamp.

The Browns have improved their roster on paper this offseason, and that’s clear.

However, the Browns could still sign another free agent or two to fill out the roster. Along the defensive line specifically could be a spot.

The Browns floated as a good fit to sign EDGE Joey Bosa

Fox recently put together an interesting list linking the top NFL free agents remaining to teams that should sign them. The Browns were connected to former Los Angeles Chargers and Buffalo Bills EDGE Joey Bosa, which would be an interesting fit. Bosa of course starred at Ohio State, so naturally, there will be plenty of fans wanting it to happen.

“While Myles Garrett broke the NFL’s single-season sack record last season (23.0), the Browns didn’t have another edge rusher who reached six,” Fox’s Ben Arthur wrote. “So there’s an opportunity to add more playmaking on what’s already a strong defense. The 30-year-old Bosa, a five-time Pro Bowler with the Chargers, had five sacks and a league-high five forced fumbles with the Buffalo Bills in 2025.”

Bosa spent the first nine years of his career with the Chargers after being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Now at 30 years old, Bosa hasn’t been a double-digit sack guy since 2021. Injuries have slowed down the veteran pass rusher, but he’s still a nice secondary option and would uplift the Browns’ EDGE unit as a whole.

With the Bills in 2025, Bosa started 15 games with the league-high five forced fumbles, five sacks, and 29 tackles—a five-time Pro Bowler through his first 10 seasons.

Why Joey Bosa could be a possibility for the Browns

Cleveland wanted to sign AJ Epenesa at one point, but a failed physical prevented it. The Browns still need to replace their fourth EDGE from last season with Cameron Thomas now with the Atlanta Falcons through free agency. Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire are the next two pass rushers past Myles Garrett, but the Browns could use another proven option. One injury to the current group could leave the Browns hurting.

The Browns did not draft a pass rusher, but they did bring in undrafted free agents Logan Fano and Tyreak Sapp. It’s most likely that one of those players (Fano) fills out the final EDGE spot.

Still, the idea of adding Bosa would be a good addition for this offense. He’s still a very capable secondary pass rusher and he’d add to a loaded defensive line.
